Program Objectives
The HPC program is designed to:
- Create a vocational chaplaincy course purpose-built for Hindu purohits and priests
- Equip purohits with chaplaincy skills and knowledge to serve the global Hindu diaspora beyond traditional ritual roles
- Integrate chaplains and purohit counselors in the global HSCI Sangha for knowledge sharing and professional success
Program Leadership
The HPC program is led by Naresh Maharaj, Neil Persad, Gaurav Rastogi, and Usha Narasimhan, with advisory support from the HSCI Board and the SAHMS (South African Hindu Maha Sabha) Board.
Who Should Apply
- Practicing purohits interested in expanding their services into chaplaincy and spiritual care
- Purohits seeking Hindu chaplaincy credentials to grow professionally and serve more broadly
Admission Requirements
Evaluated during the admission interview:
- College degree in any field from an accredited university anywhere in the world
- English language proficiency — written and spoken
- Demonstrated interest in the teachings of the Bhagavad Gita and the Karma Yoga tradition
- Purohit credentials with 3+ years of experience
- Stated interest in adding chaplaincy credentials for professional growth and extended service

Mentoring
Each HPC scholar is paired with a designated graduate CHT mentor for the duration of the course, ensuring close peer guidance through every mandala.
Fee Structure
- US base tuition: $2,500 (same as CHT)
- GTU chaplaincy fellowship: $1,500 available to GTU-enrolled students
- South Africa: TBD between HSCI and SAHMS
Content Development
Course content is being developed by Naresh Maharaj and Neil Persad in coordination with HSCI's Mandala Principal Faculty Members, ensuring the curriculum integrates seamlessly with the existing CHT learning structure while addressing the distinctive needs and strengths of practicing purohits.
