Hindu Community Institute (HCI) Volunteer Service (VS) is an active effort to connect and serve our communities. It is integral to HCI's Learn Serve mission. The HCI VS has been operational since 2021 and is managed by experienced members who have graduated from the Counselor of Hindu Tradition (CHT) Course run by HCI. The Services offered are completely free and non-obligatory. The graph below shows a roadmap for providing spiritual support and counseling services across an individual's life as below.
The current VS services include guidance on celebratory events, pre-marriage and inter-religious marriage counseling, well-being and Hindu last rites. The services are accessible through a call-in number (415) 980-1415 attended by HCI volunteers in the Bay Area. Soon the greater Los Angeles area will have a dedicated number, followed by the US East Coast.
The HCI operating model is scalable and can be seamlessly extended worldwide. HCI's state-of-the-art technical platform and the wholehearted passion of HCI volunteers are readily accessible for seekers of these services.

In the last 2 years, there have been more than 30 requests for counsel/guidance through our Last Rites Service. HCI volunteers and subject matter experts have been present on short notice to offer emotional support and guidance on rites in the Hindu-Vedic framework that is aligned with each family's traditions and appropriate to Desh-Kaal (place and time). Our volunteers take great pride in being able to serve.
Instances have included a Sheriff calling our line on behalf of a family who had experienced a recent death, and several cases where individuals have asked for guidance on finding funeral homes and Hindu processes for cremation.
